Poor Parenting

Now this is poor parenting...

POOR PARENTING #1: When you are three months old and you have to hold your own bottle to feed yourself because your mother is asleep.

P.S. I had a really rough night last night with Marisa. I was soooo beyond tired. haha.

POOR PARENTING #2: When you are three months old and you know how to use your parents' American Express.

I'm a little worried people. I have only one child!

Harry Potter

Just so everybody knows, I finished the last Harry Potter book on Friday. Let's just say that it was real good. That's all I'm going to say so I don't ruin the ending for the rest of you.

Now, I'm trying to become a guitar hero expert. I have six songs left.

Obviously, studying for the CPA exam has dropped on my priorty list.

Gladys Knight

Yesterday, Wayne and Elaine took us to see Gladys Knight at the Hollywood Bowl. I've never been there before and it was really nice to get out and enjoy the nice cool California breeze. I liked seeing all the fancy picnics but it was really funny to me to see them eat their meals on the side of the road, underneath stairs, on rocks, off the walkway, etc. I told Tim that he needs to bring me back to another concert and have a romantic picnic with me. haha.
Tim and I enjoyed ourselves very much and Marisa absolutely loved the concert. She was screaming happily and making so much noise. I was a little worried that the people in front of us would be annoyed with baby noises, but they were so drunk they didn't even notice.

So apparently I tend to be a magnet for drunk people. As I mentioned before, at all big events I am surrounded by drunks and they always manage to spill beer on me. This time though, the drunks were pretty funny and luckily, I didn't get beer spilled on me. Tim did. haha. As we were walking toward the exit after the concert, Tim's foot accidently knocked into a Heinken bottle and he got beer spilled on his foot. Nasty.
Anyways, this drunk couple was almost the highlight of the night. They were standing up (when everyone is sitting down mind you)and screaming and waving their arms like mad cavemen. Absolutely no rhythm whatsoever to make matters worse. They acted like they were at Woodstock back in the 60s. During the song, Midnight Train to Georgia, a personal favorite of mine, I think they went the craziest. I don't know how or when it happened but when I looked up, the man had unbuttoned his whole shirt! And it's a slow paced song...
I took a picture...well...because it was hilarious and other people thought so too because they were taking pictures of them as well.

This picture is definetly not worth a thousand words but I thought I would share it with ya anyway.

First pair of shoes

Marisa wore her first pair of shoes to church today! As you can imagine, I have been waiting for this day to come and yes, Tim, it is definetly worth documenting. She looked soo adorable, of course.
As a Mother, I couldn't be more proud. =o)

We finally got our diplomas in the mail today! All that sweat, blood, and tears for a fancy piece of paper. But this fancy piece of paper officially says that we are both well-educated and ready to move into the real world. It also allows my smart hubby to make me some money... I mean ...allow financial stability for our family. =o)
Tim graduated in Accounting and got his bachelors and his masters. He graduated Magna Cum Laude. GO TIM! And I got my bachelors in Broadcast Journalism. Now, Tim will be working full-time for KPMG and I'll be working full-time as a mother. Maybe someday I'll become a famous news anchor. =o)
We will never forget all the wonderful experiences we had at BYU and we are sure proud to bleed blue.

Side note: (My tassel is the wrong color in all these pictures. It was supposed to be white. The Alumni House gave me the correct color after graduation. Brown is the color for the fine arts people. The wierdos in the HFAC building. Moded.)

Another side note: (Because Tim got his masters, at graduation he got to wear a fancier robe than me. I was kinda maybe jealous because my gown was so plain, but the masters gown looks like something from Harry Potter. So I'm not really that jealous. haha.)

After graduation we went to Tucanos to eat. It is an amazing Brazilian restaurant where waiters keep coming to your table with a variety of meat until you flip a wooden bar that tells them to stop coming. It is one of our top favorite restaurants.

Dodger Game

Last night we went to a Dodger game and it was really fun and relaxing. It was Mormon night and Elder Robert D. Hales threw the first pitch! Pretty cool, huh? Another pretty cool thing is that I didn't get beer spilled on me! CELEBRATION! For some reason, I have really bad luck at baseball games with being around fat, drunk men that manage to spill their beer on me. Let's just say, it was really nice being surrounded by Mormons. Marisa had fun too and she was pretty easy to deal with. She just spent her time screaming (happy screams), drolling, and spitting up. Especially on Tim.

Tummy Time

Marisa rolled over today! I have been doing a lot of tummy time with her lately because she really needs to gain upper body strength to do a mini-push up, plus she started developing a flat spot on the side of her head that we need to fix. Marisa hates being on her tummy, but she is getting used to it and it's paying off. She's getting stronger!
I was playing with her in the living room when I decided to put her on her side so she can be off the side of her head that is flat. Then after a few minutes she just suddenly flipped over onto her stomach! I was so happy! BUT, the best part happened not to long after. I put Marisa down on her back on the floor so I can refill all the containers with wipes. While I was busy doing that, in the corner of my eye I saw her move onto her side and then flip over onto her stomach!! She did a complete 180! I couldn't believe my eyes! I quickly grabbed her and smothered her with kisses. It was so special to witness.

Happy 3 month Birthday!

Happy 3 month Birthday Marisa! I can't believe Marisa is 3 months old today. Everyone kept telling me that babies grow up fast and they were certainly right. It seems like yesterday I was at the hospital with a tiny little newborn...

Marisa Mae Hart was born on April 17, 2007 at 2:16 pm. She weighed 6 lbs 9 oz and was 19 inches long. She had a TON of beautiful dark hair and really long eyelashes. In fact, the doctor and the nurses very first comments were about her eyelashes. One nurse even came into my room, looked at Marisa's eyelashes and said, "Look at those eyelashes! You're the pretty baby that all the nurses have been telling me to go see." All during my short stay at the hospital I would continuously receive comments and compliments about Marisa's eyelashes. And to be honest, I loved it! =o)

When Marisa was born she barely made a noise. She cried for only a few seconds but the rest of the time she was being cleaned and measured she just quietly looked around. On the other hand, I had tears coming down my face as I just stared at her from across the room. Within a few minutes I was able to hold Marisa in my arms for the first time. My first reaction was that I couldn't believe this was all happening! My little girl had finally arrived. For 9 months I dreamed and daydreamed about this moment. I would also dream about what she would look like and what I would feel after she was born. After I said hi to her I just spent the rest of the time examining her in amazement and I couldn't stop smiling. Her eyes, her little nose, her little lips, her little face, her whole little body was a beautiful miracle right in my arms. It was definetly love at first sight.

Next, Tim went with the nurses to give Marisa a bath and really clean her up, while I stayed behind to get cleaned up as well. Tim said that the nurse who was bathing Marisa said, "She is a really cute baby! And that comes from somebody who looks at babies all day long." I smiled when he told me that. Of course I have the cutest baby! Marisa didn't really like her first bath. Tim said that she cried a lot because she was cold. He also said that all he wanted to do was hold her but he knew he couldn't.

Tim brought Marisa back into our room after her bath. She looked so different all cleaned up. She was a million times cuter! I couldn't stop saying how adorable she was! The nurses styled her hair with gel and put this cute little pink bow on her head. She also had a big green pacifer in her mouth that looked half the size of her head! We just laughed because she looked so dang cute! Marisa was so small, especially being tightly wrapped up, that she felt like a little football that you can just toss around. Her skin was so soft and she smelled brand new. Her eyelashes stood out more because it didn't have that gunk covering her eyes. When I held her again, she opened her big brown eyes to look at me and they were piercing beautiful.
From then on out, Tim and I were on cloud 9. We were so in love with her! All the hussle and bustle was finally over and we were left alone to enjoy our new addition to our family.

Labor and delivery was seriously so fun! (I had an epidural so who wouldn't be happy?) I delivered at the Orem Community Hospital and my doctor was Dr. Judd. He is the absolute best doctor in the world and I'm really going to miss him. Dr. Judd was also my mom's doctor so he delivered me, Fernando, and Leslie! So I have a special connection to him. Because I was induced, Tim and I had to arrive at the hospital at 7:00 am. Once they showed us our room and I was hooked up to everything you can possibly imagine they started the pitocin. Just after a little bit I was officially in labor. Dr. Judd then came in and broke my water and the contractions started. I only felt a few contractions before I got my epidural. The contractions weren't very strong but I still didn't like it. How can anyone not get a epidural is beyond me. I was a little scared about the epidural because I didn't know what to expect but it was so easy. The anesthsiologist was super nice and walked me through the whole thing. He really made me feel at ease. Tim wanted to watch but he wasn't allowed to. I guess many guys faint.
I was in labor for only 4 1/2 hours! Tim would always tell me when I was having a contraction by looking at the monitor and I wouldn't feel a thing! I would always reply to Tim by saying, "Oh really! I wouldn't know!" haha I was quickly dilating and only a few hours later I suddenly felt pressure. I didn't really know what it was but I knew I wanted to push. (No one really explained much to me about labor.) And of course, after the nurses checked me it was time to push. Pushing was a little wierd because I couldn't feel anything but the nurses and Tim assured me everything was going well. After awhile, Marisa got stuck so Dr. Judd had to come in and use forceps. The rest was easy. Dr. Judd pulled Marisa out and it was the best experience in the world to see her come into this world.

One of my favorite moments at the hospital was when Tim and I walked over to the nursery to see Marisa. The nursery was in the middle of the hospital with big windows. We first stopped at the window to see if we could find her first. You couldn't miss her! There was a long line of clear baskets with babies that were white, bald, and with no eyelashes or eyebrows. Right there in the middle of the line of babies was Marisa with a head full of dark hair and a cute little pink bow glued at the edge of her hairline. She was bundle up so tightly and nicely in her blanket just sleeping. She was soo beautiful to look at. Marisa literally looked like she fell from heaven. A flood of powerful feelings entered my heart as I looked at her through the window. It was at the moment I felt like a mom for the first time. "That little baby girl is mine," I thought.

The nurse at the nursery really took the time to make Marisa a head band and gel her hair again. I think she loved taking extra time for Marisa because she had all that hair. It was hard to resist.

After we picked her up from the nursery we were ready to go home. We put Marisa in her carseat and happily walked out of the hospital. Tim and I definetly have the most beautiful baby girl. We love you Marisa!

Sweet Dreams for Mommy!

Marisa slept through the night!! (Sleeping through the night for a baby her age is 5-6 hours. Not quite 8 hours, but still.) She slept from 11:15pm-5:15am, ate, then slept again from 5:30am-9:30am! It was HEAVENLY!! Especially since I have a cold. This is the second time she slept for 6 hours. Last time was during the beach house. Marisa usually sleeps 3-4 hour stretches in the night, so I can't complain there because she used to be every 2 hours around the clock, 24/7. But, come on now...6 hours is definetly a treat! Hopefully this is a start of something extremely exciting!
Speaking of exciting...Marisa's days are soo much better. She is on a predictable schedule now. Marisa will eat, take a nap about an hour to 1 1/2 hours later for about 45 minutes, and then after she wakes up, about half an hour later she is hungry and the whole cycle begins again. So she eats about every 2 1/2 - 3 hours during the day. Not only is the schedule exciting, but she doesn't fight me anymore during her naps. Everytime I put her down for a nap it was a battle. She would be so tired but for some wierd reason she would fight sleep! Now it takes me a couple of minutes to put her asleep. I love it!
Marisa is starting to leave the newborn stages behind and embracing the infant stages. Her eating and sleeping habits are changing, AND her body size is changing! We bought her 3-6 month new clothes yesterday! She doesn't fit into her 0-3 month clothes anymore which is unreal. I felt so wierd at the store because it felt like I should still be buying newborn clothes for her. My baby girl is growing up!

My CPA review

I've finally started reviewing for the CPA exam. Last week I got a huge box of books, flashcards, and CDs to help me review. I thought I was just going to get a few CDs. So, I guess the review is going to be worse than I thought.

So, Marisa seems to have found her tongue this morning. After finishing her first bottle of the day, Marisa started sticking her tongue out as far as she could. She kept on doing this over and over. Hopefully we'll get a good picture so that you can all see it. It's pretty hilarious.

The Beach House

So, it's the week of the beach house. Tanya, Marisa, and I were at the beach house over the weekend, but we'll be spending most of the week at Wayne and Elaine's. I decided not to ask for a vacation after only 2 weeks of work.

I guess you could say that Wayne punished me for not going to the beach house. He's making me water the yard this week. In my opinion, that is one of the worst chores. It's awful because it takes all day to do.

Some of the highlights from my few days at the beach include:
  • Eating the Huevos Rancheros from Ruby's on the Balboa Pier for Haylie's birthday
  • Tanner standing on the coffee table in our condo while repeatedly slapping his behind
  • Tanner walking to the shore, dropping his swimsuit and emptying his bladder.

We also took Marisa to the water to get her feet wet. I don't know if she liked it, but she didn't cry.

To add to Tim's comments above, the Beach House was really fun as it is every year. When all the Harts get together there is never a dull moment. Especially when sharing a condo with Tanner. Breaking news: Tanner and Tanya broke up. haha. Tanner left me for Marisa. He always wants to be by her, touch her, talk to her, and has to know where she is at at all times. If he doesn't see her he sadly says, "Where's Marisa?"
Funny story: During church Tanner sat by me and Sara. Out of nowhere he stands up, looks back at us with mischievous eyes, and toots! He then replies by saying,"Oopsies." As we all start laughing uncontrollably Tanner then proceeds to walk towards Marisa and says to her, "Hey, Marisa, I farted!" He said it several times to her as if waiting for a response. haha.

This year's beach house was a blast. Many fun and funny things happened. We are already excited for next year! (I also heard a rumor that Wayne and Elaine are taking their kids and spouses to the Virgin Islands next year???)
